Global tourism revenues will collapse

The US will have the most to lose, a United Nations study shows. The report “Covid-19 and Tourism”, published by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), takes into account three scenarios, in which containment measures last four, eight or 12 months.

In these scenarios, global tourism revenues would fall by $ 1,700 billion, $ 2,200 billion and $ 3,300 billion, respectively, or by 1.5% to 4.2% of global GDP. The report does not specify the most likely scenario, although a UNCTAD official stated that the middle scenario “could be a realistic one”.
