Mourning in the art world in Romania – The president of the Union of Plastic Artists has died
“Pictor Zamfir Dumitrescu, President of the Union of Plastic Artists of Romania from 2002 to 2007, doctoral professor, former deputy in the Romanian Parliament in the 2004-2008 legislature, enters from today 6 February 2021 in the Constellation of Immortality. The painter Zamfir Dumitrescu remains in our consciousness one of the landmarks of Perspective science, a prestigious plastic artist with a brilliant national and international career, known and recognized as a brilliant student of master Corneliu Baba. (…) His disappearance leaves a great void in Romanian Art. We send our condolences to the family in this way,” UAP says.
The painter Zamfir Dumitrescu was born on April 15, 1946, in Bucharest. In 1970, he graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts ‘Nicolae Grigorescu’ in Bucharest, in the class of Professor Corneliu Baba.
Zamfir Dumitrescu was a member of the United States International Guild of Realism, the Italian association CallforArt., the A.I.A.P.P.
He has won numerous international awards, of which it should be remembered in 2006 when he received the Gold Medal for Painting at the third official Art Salon in Caraguatuba in Brazil.
His work “Ars Perspecire”, unique among editorial appearances around the world, received the Romanian Academy Award for 2002.
As president of the Union of Plastic Artists of Romania, Zamfir Dumitrescu supported the contemporary artistic phenomenon, developing numerous managerial projects. He founded the “Dimitrie Paciurea” School of Arts and Crafts, and as an MP initiated several laws. Of these, the most important of these is Law No. 8/2006 on the granting of compensatory compensation to retired artists, members of the Legally constituted Creators’ Unions, Unions recognized as legal persons of public utility.
He dedicated his entire life to his teaching career at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, where he contributed to the formation of numerous generations of artists, being the leader of the doctoral works of important plastic artists.
In 2002, for all his activity, the President of Romania awarded him the National Order “For Merit”, in the rank of Knight.
